Comment period open for remediation of O’Chiese First Nation landfills

[post-views]

Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the O’Chiese First Nation Former Landfills Closure and Remediation Plan located in O’Chiese First Nation, Alberta is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. The project is located within O’Chiese First Nation approximately 52 km northwest of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The project relates to Remedial Action Plan (RAP) implementation work for three historical landfill sites owned and operated by O’Chiese First Nation.

Waste and impacted soil from two of the sites will be excavated and hauled to the former site for consolidation and final capping on a reduced waste footprint. Waste and impacted soils from a portion of the former site will also be excavated and relocated to the reduced waste footprint for consolidation and final capping. The excavated areas will then be reclaimed by backfilling and compaction with clean fill material and the area graded to accomplish adequate surface drainage.
