| Montreal, 15 June 2021—Mark your calendars for the annual Council Session of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) on September 10 and the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) public forum on September 9, 2021. For the past twenty-eight years, the Governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States have worked together through the CEC to conserve, protect, and enhance the North American environment.
Each year, North America’s top environmental officials meet together and with the public to discuss pressing environmental issues facing the region. This year, on September 10, in Wilmington, North Carolina, United States Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan will host his counterparts, Mexico’s Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources María Luisa Albores González and Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change Jonathan Wilkinson. As is customary, JPAC will host a public forum the day before the ministerial meeting.
Throughout the two days, participants can learn from and engage with subject matter experts, business leaders, youth, Indigenous leaders and other stakeholders focused on enhancing trilateral cooperation to conserve and protect North America’s unique biodiversity and natural resources, and hear from the CEC Council on opportunities for regional action on environmental protection and climate change in the year to come.
The 2021 CEC Council Session and JPAC public forum are open to the public and both will be live-streamed in English, French and Spanish at www.cec.org/livestream. Agenda and registration details will be announced in July 2021.
