The History of Environment in Canada

Year

1885

Banff National Park—Canada’s first national park—was established in 1885, only 13 years after Yellowstone National Park. Unlike Yellowstone National Park, Banff was founded primarily to promote tourism and the Canadian National Railroad, rather than to promote conservation; strong conservation language only entered the Parks Act in 1930.
