Study: Canada as a Conserver Society

Ursula Franklin

Canadian environmental organizations and scientists were confronting the pulp and paper industry over its release of harmful pollutants such as mercury and dioxins. At the same time, the Science Council of Canada published the groundbreaking report Canada as a Conserver Society. Authored by renowned metallurgist Ursula Franklin, the report called for a fundamental shift in the industrial economy, advocating for an approach that achieved “more [economy] with less [resource use].”
