Department of the Environment Formed

On June 11, Canada became the second country in the world to establish a formal Department of the Environment. The new ministry incorporated older agencies, such as the Meteorological Service of Canada (1871), Water Survey of Canada (1908) and the Canadian Wildlife Service (1947).
