In 1990 the federal government releases Canada’s Green Plan for a healthy environment. The Green Plan aimed “to secure for current and future generations a safe and healthy environment and a sound and prosperous economy. The plan represented a fundamental shift in the federal government’s view of economic development and environmental protection.
