The National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI), established in 1992, and launched in 1993, is the national pollutant release and transfer register of Canada. It requires businesses to publicly report the release or transfer of toxic substances into air, water, or land, promoting transparency and the public’s right-to-know.
Established as a result of Bhopal (84) and Rio UNCED (92), the NPRI enables facilities to track and reduce emissions, improve waste management, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Trade associations and industries also use NPRI data to refine chemical management practices.
