The History of Environment in Canada

The Canadian government formalized its commitment to sustainable development with the 2008 Federal Sustainable Development Act (FSDA), requiring the creation of a Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS). This whole-of-government approach enhances transparency and accountability regarding environmental sustainability. The current FSDS focuses on four key themes: Addressing Climate Change and Air Quality; Maintaining Water Quality and Availability; Protecting Nature; and Shrinking the Environmental Footprint.
