Launched in 2017 at the UN Climate Change Conference, the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) aims to accelerate clean growth and climate protection by phasing out coal-fired electricity. Founded by Canada and the United Kingdom, the PPCA has grown to over 165 members, including governments, businesses, and financial institutions. By 2022, the alliance contributed to over 75% of coal power in OECD countries being retired or scheduled for closure by 2030. The PPCA unites diverse stakeholders committed to a sustainable and economically inclusive transition away from coal power, with support for affected workers and communities.
