The deadliest weather event in Canadian history

British Columbia experienced record-breaking rainfall and a devastating wildfire in 2021. The Lytton wildfire, sparked amidst an extreme heatwave, destroyed the town on June 29th, a day after Canada’s highest-ever temperature of 49.6°C was recorded there. The heatwave, lasting from June 25th to July 1st, tragically claimed 619 lives, making it Canada’s deadliest weather event.
