Canada’s largest multi-residential EV charging project launched

[post-views]

The Richmond Centre in B.C. recently launched Canada’s largest multi-residential electric vehicle (EV) charging project. Featuring 1,212 state-of-the-art Elocity smart chargers installed within a parkade spanning an area equivalent to six football fields, this landmark initiative was delivered by Enlightened Building Technologies using Canadian-made smart EV charging technology from Elocity.

The project positions Richmond Centre as the site of one of the most extensive single-location multi- residential EV charging infrastructure deployments in North America. This milestone project exemplifies leadership in sustainability, clean energy, and next- generation mobility solutions. More than just an infrastructure project, it represents a bold step forward for tenant convenience and sustainable urban living.

“This project showcases the power of collaboration, innovation, and Canadian-made technology, making electric-mobility more accessible while reinforcing our commitment to clean energy,” said David Recchia, Executive Vice President, Western Canada & USA, Ozz Electric BC. “As we continue to pioneer advancements in renewable energy, we look forward to building on this momentum with future innovations that support a more sustainable and resilient electrical grid.”

Revolutionizing EV Charging with Smart Energy and Load Management

The smart chargers and management system are developed and delivered by Elocity, a Canadian smart EV charging technology company, and feature several industry-leading innovations, including:

  • Cutting edge technology with convenience to ensure accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
  • Optimized Power Sharing: Advanced electrical power-sharing technology enables efficient utilization of infrastructure, substantially reducing capital and operational costs while maintaining reliability.

Elocity’s intelligent energy management platform optimizes the overall energy usage of all vehicles charging and balances the electrical demands of the building. Elocity’s AI-based software also optimizes charging to reduce costs by utilizing periods of lower power pricing and minimize overall demands on the electric grid.

Project Impact

The project’s environmental and climate benefits are significant: There is the potential to replace over 13 million miles of gasoline vehicle travel with 584,677 gallons of fuel saved. The GHG reductions approximate avoiding the methane associated with half a million trash bags in landfill and millions of pounds of coal being burned.

Strategic Collaboration

Executed in record time, this milestone project was made possible through collaborative efforts between industry leaders, government partners, and technology innovators, including:

  • Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) – Federal Program Support   Shape Properties – Project Developer
  • Cadillac Fairview – Property Owner
  • City of Richmond – Leadership in clean mobility
  • Ozz Electric – Infrastructure Design & Installation Contractor
  • Enlightened Building Technologies – Project Delivery and Infrastructure Management
  • Elocity Technologies Inc. – Smart EV Chargers and EV Charging Management Software Technology Provider
  • Axiom Builders – General Contractor

Leaders from Shape Properties, Ozz Electric, and Elocity Technologies are proud of their pioneering role in this Canadian-made groundbreaking EV charger installation. This project underscores both their Teams experience and the power of collaboration, innovation, and made in Canada technology to set a benchmark for sustainable urban mobility in Canada and beyond.

Sanjeev Singh, Founder and CEO of Elocity, emphasizes the strategic importance of this deployment: “Elocity is a proud Canadian technology company, operating in 12 countries across four continents. As the end-to-end technology provider for this project, we are honoured to enable a seamless EV charging experience while reinforcing grid stability and sustainability. Our continued investment in AI-driven energy management and demand response technology makes EV infrastructure scalable, cost-efficient, and future-ready. This project demonstrates the power of intelligent, made-in-Canada technology in shaping the global EV landscape.”
