Canadians hit the Trail to collectively log 30,000 km in 30 days

[post-views]

Looking for active outdoor plans this weekend? People across the country are hitting the Trans Canada Trail later this month for an ambitious campaign to raise funds and support for Canada’s nationwide trail network.

The Great Canadian Hike, which officially kicks off Saturday, September 20, invites people of all ages and skill levels to hike, bike, paddle or roll on their local trails, working together to log a collective 30,000 km—the approximate length of the Trans Canada Trail—by October 19.

This national initiative is raising funds that will go right back into maintaining and improving trails throughout Canada — everything from repairing damage to accessibility improvements to building climate-resilient trails.

The Trans Canada Trail enhances climate resilience by preserving green spaces for flood mitigation and carbon sequestration, and by funding tree planing and nature-based solutions with the assistance of programs including the Toyota Canada Fund for Trail Sustainability and the Planting for Tomorrow Program. The Trail is applying strategic tree planting and climate-smart design to address climate change impacts and build a more sustainable trail network for the future.

Registrations and donations will remain open until the end of the campaign.

The Trans Canada Trail is the longest multi-use trail system in the world and it is always growing. It reaches every province and territory, and connects all three of Canada’s coastlines.
