Formation of the Society for Promoting of Environmental Conservation

The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) was founded in Burnaby, B.C., in response to growing concerns about urban quality of life. Issues such as traffic congestion, declining air and water quality, and inadequate sewage treatment were key drivers behind its creation. Over time, SPEC broadened its scope, becoming a vocal advocate on a wide range of environmental issues.
