World Wildlife Fund Canada launched its 10-year national Endangered Species Campaign. The campaign aimed to complete a network of protected areas representing all terrestrial natural regions of Canada. Although the organization did not reach its goal, the campaign helped establish over 1,000 new parks, wilderness areas, and nature reserves. This effort more than doubled the number of protected areas across the country.
