WSP delivers engineering, technical services for PEI waste processing project

[post-views]

WSP in Canada (WSP) will provide engineering and technical services for the Enwave Energy Corporation waste processing facility in Prince Edward Island.

Replacing the current system, which is reaching the end of its serviceable life, the new, expanded facility will help address the need for innovative sustainable waste solutions for the province.

“Waste-to-energy solutions are one of the many innovative ways that communities can power themselves towards a cleaner, most sustainable energy future,” said Rehan Wasti, Executive Vice President, Energy, Resources and Industry, WSP in Canada. “By expanding the previous system that was in place, the city is giving itself the opportunity to fuel its future growth and improve its energy resilience.”

WSP will be providing detailed engineering (all disciplines), along with permit support and construction support, as a sub to contractors Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd. and Marco Group. The company also provided a series of preliminary engineering services prior to the project’s approval.

The expansion of the waste processing facility will nearly double the capacity of the existing system. It is expected that the facility will help divert up to 49,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste from landfill facilities each year, creating GHG savings of up to 908,000 tonnes of CO2e by 2052. This is the equivalent of taking 278,000 cars off the road.
