Stantec promotes new global leader for environmental services

[post-views]

Stantec has announced new leadership for its Environmental Services business as of January 2025. Luke de Hayr takes over as executive vice president of Environmental Services for Stantec’s global operations.

De Hayr’s appointment to the position comes as Susan Reisbord, who had led Environmental Services for three years, has been appointed to Stantec’s chief operating officer, North America.

Environmental Services has grown steadily to make up 20 per cent of Stantec’s net income with more than 5,100 professionals working on four continents. The practice has more than a dozen business lines, including assessment and permitting, atmospheric sciences, cultural and social sciences, nature-based solutions, remediation and revitalization, sustainability advisory services, and water resources.

De Hayr offers 25 years of experience in the environmental industry and joined Stantec when the firm acquired Cardno in 2021.

“Luke brings tremendous operational leadership and a successful track record of growth,” said Reisbord. “His experience allows us to support our clients’ global challenges, such as climate change, increasingly complex permitting and regulatory requirements, remediation projects, or emerging contaminants like PFAS.”

He has supported numerous large international projects in the United Arab Emirates, Papua New Guinea, Jordan, Oman, Nigeria, and Kenya. De Hayr has led projects involving sustainability, regulatory compliance, permitting, and natural resource damage assessment. One of his signature projects was the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, where he managed and helped lead the natural resource damage assessment for the incident.

“Environmental Services is a growing and dynamic business, and our practice fits strongly into Stantec’s new strategic plan,” said de Hayr. “Whether we are remediating a contaminated site, restoring a stream, or providing a climate-risk assessment, our clients’ projects have measurable impact on the environment and our communities. I’m excited to lead a group of talented professionals who bring the best science and innovation to work every day.”
