Canadian municipalities invited to join net-zero climate action pilot program

The Municipal Net-Zero Action Research Partnership (N-ZAP) is calling on Canadian communities to test innovative learning tools and resources designed to accelerate municipal climate action across the country. N-ZAP is a collaborative initiative jointly led by the University of Waterloo, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Green Municipal Fund (GMF), and ICLEI Canada. The partnership brings together 11 academic institutions, eight national organizations, and 15 municipal partners to conduct research and develop evidence-based resources that help municipalities engage in climate action more effectively and efficiently.

N-ZAP is currently seeking pilot communities to participate in an exclusive peer-learning cohort that will connect municipal practitioners with cutting-edge climate research, practical resources, and fellow municipal staff working on similar initiatives. Pilot communities will play a crucial role in shaping resources that will benefit municipalities across Canada.

Selected municipalities will have the opportunity to test-drive N-ZAP’s newly developed resources, including three comprehensive climate action guides and the innovative Climate Analysis Tool. As pilot communities work with these resources, they will provide valuable feedback on how the tools enhance their understanding of climate action and create tangible impact in their communities.

This is more than just a testing opportunity: participating municipalities will gain access to cutting-edge climate research that can inform local decision-making, connect with peer support from other municipal staff working on similar priorities, and earn micro-credential courses from the University of Waterloo. Perhaps most valuable of all, pilot communities also have the opportunity to join an exclusive peer-learning cohort where they can share challenges, exchange solutions, and learn from the experiences of municipalities across Canada working towards similar climate action goals.
