Kory Wood, renewable energy leader and member of the Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) Board of Directors, has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in honour of his ongoing work towards advancing Indigenous leadership in the clean energy space.
The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves through their significant contributions to Canada and their home provinces. Launched by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, the Coronation Medal marks the first Canadian honour to celebrate a coronation and will be awarded to honourees across the country.
Wood was nominated by British Columbia Premier David Eby for starting a successful Indigenous-owned clean energy business and for advancing Indigenous self-determination and reconciliation through his work. He was presented with the medal by The Honourable Janet Austin, Lieutenant Governor of B.C. and B.C. Premier David Eby, alongside other recipients at a ceremony in Vancouver on August 27, 2024.
“I am deeply honoured to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and I share this recognition with all Indigenous entrepreneurs who are driving change in our communities,” said Wood. “Our work in clean energy goes beyond business; it’s about reclaiming stewardship of the land, fostering economic empowerment, and advancing reconciliation. This award highlights the critical role Indigenous leaders play in shaping Canada’s energy future, and I remain committed to this important journey.”
