Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has signed a standing offer agreement with the City of Montreal’s Service des grands parcs, du Mont-Royal et des sports (SGPMRS) to provide professional and technical biological services. SGPMRS is the municipal agency responsible for the city’s parks, Mount Royal, and sports. Stantec will undertake several environmental projects aimed at protecting and enhancing natural areas, urban forests, and public spaces within Montreal’s major parks.

Supporting the key goals of the City of Montreal’s Nature and Sports Plan, the two-year agreement includes an option for a one-year extension. Stantec will provide on-demand biological services, which could include biological inventories, ecological studies, environmental monitoring, and conservation analyses for nature, metropolitan, and urban parks within the Great Montreal area.

“We are very excited to support the City of Montreal in its efforts to preserve and sustainably manage the city’s ecosystems,” said Cécile Pérès, team leader and environmental project manager at Stantec. “We have assembled a seasoned team dedicated to enhancing knowledge about the biodiversity of Montreal’s green spaces and improving the city’s resilience.”

Stantec’s team will include biologists specialized in botany, herpetofauna, avifauna, and aquatic fauna, as well as other environmental and urban planning professionals. The projects will respect the urban context and unique environmental constraints of each site, while preserving natural heritage, considering park users, protecting facilities, and following current environmental standards and protocols.

With over 40 years of experience in nature-based solutions and ecosystem resilience projects worldwide, Stantec has completed a wide range of ecological projects in Quebec, including projects with municipalities, government departments, public agencies, and private developers. More recently, Stantec provided environmental services for the major Réseau express métropolitain (REM) light rail construction project.
